Ahoy! Want to sail the seven seas? Interested in renewable energy, autonomous vehicles, and outdoor robotics? Get involved in aQuatonomous: a new design team at Queen’s University focused on designing and building a solar-powered autonomous surface vessel (ASV/robotic boat) for the applied purpose of carrying out ecological and water research in harsh ocean environments. The 2024-2025 year will be aQuatonomous’s first year of complete operation, with the goal of attending the RoboNation RoboBoat competition in March.

aQuatonomous is hiring two Co-Captains for the 2024-2025 academic year; these individuals will spearhead our technical initiatives across the four engineering sub-teams, electrical, perception, autonomy, and mechanical, as well as assist in the efforts of the new ecological sciences and research (ESR) team and business team. These individuals will propel us forward to the RoboNation RoboBoat competition for the first time ever, and make aQuatonomous history.

👑 We are looking for someone who:

  • Has strong communication skills and time management skills.
  • Can facilitate collaboration and sponsorships with external companies, labs, and student groups.
  • Is a good listener and democratic leader.
  • Can get things done and is determined to get aQuatonomous to the RoboBoat competition.
  • Is happy to partake in field work, technical work, business management, and the lot.
  • Cares about our mission of utilizing autonomous boats as a catalyst for sustainable development.

🌊As the Co-Captain, you will be responsible for:

  • Coordinating the activities of all technical leads and creating and ensuring team-wide adherence to a technical timeline.
  • Meeting with stakeholders regarding the team’s progress and collaborative efforts with labs and companies.
  • Logistical planning of competition participation in collaboration with your executive team.
  • Approving the work of the business team (sponsorship initiatives, finances).
  • Attending outreach events and field work activities.
  • Picking up technical tasks that need to get done all across the board (electrical, perception, autonomy, mechanical).
  • Helping the new Ecological Sciences and Research Lead (ESR) to define the sub-team in adherence with aQuatonomous’s mission.
  • Being the face of aQuatonomous in professional settings and outside of your work within the club.

This application will close on May 31st, 2024. Interviews will be scheduled via Zoom from June 1st through June 8th.
