Smith Engineering Hyperloop (formerly Queen's Hyperloop Design Team) is an internationally acclaimed student team that seeks to innovate the future of green transportation. Our team consists of 4 unique branches:
Technical Branch – Work on designing and building our Hyperloop pod prototype.
Research and Development Branch – Develop and publish Hyperloop technologies beyond just the Hyperloop pod.
Business and Logistics Branch – Strategically grow and manage the team’s assets.
Tunneling and Boring Branch – Design and build a tunnel-boring machine (TBM) for Hyperloop infrastructure development.
Each branch consists of multiple subteams which focus on specific aspects of the branch.

Position Description
The Director of Tunneling & Boring is responsible for leading the design, development, and execution of the team's tunnel boring machine (TBM) project. This role oversees all tunneling-related subteams, coordinates the mechanical, electrical, and drilling aspects of the project, and ensures successful integration between subsystems. The Director manages project planning, technical reviews, manufacturing activities, testing, and competition preparation while maintaining project timelines and deliverables. They are responsible for recruiting and mentoring team members, fostering collaboration across disciplines, maintaining technical documentation, and ensuring all work is completed in accordance with team safety standards and engineering best practices. The Director works closely with team leadership to advance the team's tunneling technology and support competition objectives.
